Smiths Station is one of 21 Alabama cities and counties which will participate in the Alabama annual Sales Tax Holiday for the first time on August 1-3.
Alabama Gov. Bob Riley welcomed the cities on Friday.
Riley signed the holiday into law in 2006 allowing cities and counties the option of waiving their own sales taxes to enhance savings for consumers and boost their local economies.
The total number of cities and counties participating is now 241.
