The weather outside was frightful. Frightfully hot, humid and rainy. And though there were no logs burning on the fireplace, there was plenty of Christmas cheer Friday afternoon at the USO of Columbus during a Christmas in July celebration.
About fifty Fort Benning soldiers from the BOSS( Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) program were the guests of honor at the event, which featured a traditional, home-cooked turkey dinner(complete with sides, dessert and sweet tea) and camouflaged Christmas stockings for each soldiers.
Earlier Friday, the soldiers were volunteering at various Girls Inc. centers in the community, helping the girls with arts and crafts and sports.
A few Christmas carols even sprung forth on cue when a local televison station went live from the event.
