The Columbus City Council decided this morning to use the $3.4 million gained from a lawsuit with Continental Carbon to immediately begin hiring new police officers.
One hundred officers, beginning at a salary of $30,152, will be hired with that salary moving to $31,659 after Sept. 29.
Police chief Ricky Boren said he will begin pursuing new officers now.
