Alabama Senator Richard Shelby says that the Environmental Protection Agency will award $25,000 to Valley, Ala. for a Brownfield sustainability pilot project.
"The city of Valley," Shelby said, "was once home to a large textile industry. However, when the mills closed, brownfields were left behind. Unfortunately, these sites have become a prime hindrance to economic expansion in the area. The City of Valley will use this funding to clean up its brownfield sites and redevelop the land."
Brownfields are abandoned industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by environmental contaminations.
