Two Fort Benning soldiers killed in Iraq on Monday

Two more Fort Benning-based soldiers have been killed in Iraq, bringing the total to 10 since the 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team deployed to the Baghdad area April 1.

Sgt. Allen J. Dunckley, 25, of Yardley, Pa., and Sgt. Christopher N. Gonzalez, 25, of Winslow, Ariz. died Monday in Salman Pak, Iraq, of wounds suffered when their unit came in contact with enemy forces using an improvised explosive device and small arms fire.

The two were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment.

It was the second time in two weeks that soldiers from the 1-15 were killed in the Salman Pak area. Three died on April 28 when their vehicle was attacked by an IED and small arms fire.

During the brigade's last deployment to Iraq in 2005, it was five and a half months before the 10th soldier was killed. On this deployment, that figure was reached in 36 days.
