A female body was found about 40 feet off of County Road 39 in Russell County at about 10 o’clock Monday morning.
An unidentified man who was looking for aluminum cans on the roadside discovered the body and called police. Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry pronounced the woman dead at 1:25 p.m. and the body was then sent to the state crime lab in Montgomery for an autopsy.
Police say the woman appeared to be black, about 5-foot-5 and of medium build. Sumbry said the body could have been on the roadside for “a few days.”
Police, who are continuing their investigation, have ruled the death a homicide.
