Phenix City investigators are hoping the state crime lab in Montgomery will be able to tell them in the next day the identity of the woman discovered dead Monday morning in a wooded area of County Road 69 in Russell County.
"It may have been a case where she may have lived alone and nobody knows that she's missing," Police Capt. Frank Ivey said.
Investigators have checked missing persons reports in the area in hopes of finding a match to the body found about 10 a.m. off the roadside by an unidentified man.
The body is believed to be that of a black female, about 5-foot-5 and of medium build. She did not have identity on her and it appeared she had been dead for a few days.
