Lee County Coroner Bill Harris said 92-year-old Erma Dunn was pronounced dead on the scene of the fire at 33 Lee Road 2020 at 9:25 a.m. Harris said he is not sure the cause of Dunn's death, but it appears she died of smoke inhalation. Dunn's body was sent to Montgomery for an autopsy.
The fire started around 9 a.m. and firefighters from the Friendship community in Smiths Station put out the blaze. There was another woman in the house at the time and she made it out of the house alive.
