The Columbus Police Department, along with law enforcement enforcement agenciesacross the country celebrated National Night Out on Tuesday.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug preventionawareness and support for local anticrime programs.
The goal of National Night Out is to also strengthen police-community partnerships.
Neighborhood watches from the community organize the event every year.
A convoy lined up at the Columbus Civic Center around 5:15 p.m. and rodearound four sections of the city along with CPD and the Muscogee CountySheriff's Department.
Columbus has 25 neighborhoods that participated in National Night Out.
Isaac Brown, an organizer of National Night Out, said they are trying toget a message over to the community by participating in the event.
"We want to strengthen the community," he said. "We can cut down a lot ofcrime by just speaking and communicating with each other."
