Atlanta Symphony Orchestra offers a Stay-Cation idea

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is offering an idea for someone who loves music and is willing to make a day trip out of it.

The ASO has a new summer home, the Amphitheatre at Encore Park in Alpharetta. The address is 2200 Encore Parkway.

The next concert is 8 p.m. Aug. 14 and is a pops concert. The orchestra is conducted by ASO assistant conductor Mei-Ann Chen. Music includes works by John Williams, selections from "My Fair Lady" and waltzes by Strauss. It's free but tickets are required.

Then at 8 p.m. Aug. 15, the 2008 Volunteer Jam Tour comes to the amphitheatre. Charlie Daniels and his band will perform, along with the Outlaws and Shooter Jennings. Tickets are $25-$55.

Classic movies and film scores are featured at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16. CNN's Robert Osborne is the host as he shows "Turner Classic Movies" clips like "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Singin' in the Rain," "An American in Paris," "Gone With the Wind" and "King Kong," accompanied by the music from those movies. The ASO will be conducted by Richard Kaufman. Tickets are $21-$64.

The final concert of the season is Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. with Boston and Styx. Tickets are $30-$79. Call 404-249-6400.
