Petland will host hamster races on Aug. 16

Petland, 5592-A Whitesville Road, is holding its first hamster race at 2 p.m. Aug. 16.

Registration begins at noon for the Hamster Roll 500 (500 centimeters or roughly three feet).

Area hamsters — and their owners — can compete.

Hamsters will race a straight, three-foot long course. The furry critter with the fastest time wins. If there are enough hamsters, there will be heats to determine the winner.

The world course record is 38 seconds.

The Ice Cream Girl, a new ice cream shop in the Landings, will be selling ice cream. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Muscogee County Humane Society. Petland will match the donation (10 percent) from the ice cream sales.
