Site work for the new Mildred L. Terry Library is underway.
Work crews with McMath-Turner Construction Company were moving lots of dirt around Friday, preparing the site for the new facility.
The new building will be about 16,000 square feet and will replace the small, aging library building next door, which is about 4,200 square feet. Completion is slated for the fall of 2009.
The new building will cost approximately $4.7 million with the funds coming from various sources, including a 2003 school district SPLOST, state construction funds, Synovus and Friends of the Library.
