The authors of "We Were Soldiers Once…and Young" will be in the Columbus area next week to promote their new book, "We are Soldiers Still."
Retired Lt. Gen. Hal Moore and Joseph L. Galloway will visit Infantry Hall on Fort Benning on Aug. 25 from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The duo will appear the following evening, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m., at the Columbus Library on Macon Road.
Speaking from his home last week in Texas, Galloway explained that he and Moore traveled back to Vietnam following the release of "We Were Soldiers" not to relive the past, but to tell what happened when the bloodshed ended.
"The last book didn't finish the story and we thought, especially after our trip back to the battlefield, there was another story of interest to tell and so we decided to tell it," Galloway said. "It's a different book. It's not just a continuation of the war. It's post war."
