The Russell County School board has approved a budget of $30.1 million for the school district for the 2009 fiscal year.
Last year's budget was about $34.4 million.
Lloyd Frey, the district's chief financial officer said some of the difference comes from a reduction in state funds, due to a loss in enrollment. The district's enrollment fell by about 200 students last year.
State revenues for the 2009 budget dropped by about $1.475 million to $21.2 million.
Frey said there is also some bond money for capital projects that wasn't included in revenue for this year's budget, because it came in last year.
About $5.3 million of the school system's 2009 revenue comes from federal sources; another $4.2 million comes from local sources.
The 2009 budget will go into effect Oct. 1.
