Columbus Area Habitat for Humanity is sponsoring a home build with volunteers from 10 area churches. It's called the Apostle Build and will run Sept. 5 through Oct. 1. Work days are every Friday and Saturday.
For the location, call 706-315-3719. Anyone 14 and older can participate.
The churches are: Chattahoochee Valley Church; CrossPointe Church in Fortson; First Baptist Church; St. Luke United Methodist; St. Paul United Methodist; Pierce Chapel United Methodist; North Highland Assembly of God; Wynnbrook Baptist; and Thrivent for Lutherans, a financial membership company.
Trinity Episcopal Church is building its own house in roughly the same time period: Sept. 27-Nov. 1.
Building on Faith Week began 14 years ago through Habitat for Humanity International and is celebrated annually through the Habitat affiliates. More than 130 homes will be constructed during this project.
Habitat homes are not hand-outs. The approved families contribute "sweat equity" by helping in construction, and are given no-interest mortgages.
