Doctors Hospital will share its emergency preparedness training plan with the Veterans Administration.
This means its locally-produced training DVD and manual will be sent to all hospitals and nursing homes in Georgia, as well as to the main office of every state public health office.
The DVD and accompanying manual shows volunteers how to help nurses care for patients during a disaster. The initiative won Georgia Hospital Association's Healthcare Improvement Initiative last year.
For the project, the Georgia Department of Public Health worked with local Doctors Hospital employees Patsy Pritchett, manager of emergency management and infection control, and Teresa Brown, director of staff development. Everything was filmed at Doctors Hospital using its own employees.
The 20-minute video and manual was produced with GDPH federal funds. It will be available in Spanish and English.
