Play bunco for breast cancer

Play bunco to make sure that women don't have to gamble on the availability of local breast health programs.

Bunco for Breast Care, organized by the St. Francis Hospital Foundation, is Thursday at the St. Luke United Methodist Church Ministry Center, 301 11th St., Columbus.

The registration deadline is Monday and participants must pre-register to play.

Proceeds benefit breast health education and services at the Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Center for Breast Health.

"It's a night out with a mission. It's just a fun evening," said Jessica Hart, development coordinator for the St. Francis Hospital Foundation.

She expects about 300 participants to show up at this year's event. In the past, breast cancer survivors have participated, and individuals have played to honor friends and loved ones.

Not familiar with the dice-rolling game? Don't worry, Hart said.

"We have lots of first-time players every year," she said.

A $35 registration fee includes a T-shirt and dinner. The night's grand-prize winner gets a two-night stay at the Ritz-Carlton in Amelia Island, Fla.

The event, made possible through a variety of community sponsors, will also have second- and third-place prizes, plus door prizes.
