Man arrested after car chase goes to Recorder's Court

A car chase involving a stolen vehicle that started in Russell County late Saturday ended off Milgen Road in Columbus, sending three people to the hospital, police and state troopers said.

It began close to midnight Saturday at the intersection of Sandfort Road and Woodland Drive, said Alabama State Trooper Opelika Post Commander Lt. James Patterson. Christopher Gamad, 33, of 1419 17th Ave. Apt. D in Phenix City ran the stop sign as he was driving east on Sandfort, causing Trooper Zack Harrelson to try and stop him.

Gamad, however, sped off, starting a chase into Phenix City, across the Dillingham Bridge and into downtown Columbus.

At one point, the trooper tried to make Gamad spin out, Patterson said, though the attempt didn't work and the chase continued. The attempt damaged the trooper's silver 2002 Ford Crown Victoria, Columbus police report.
