Former WXTX-TV 54 and WTVM 9 news anchor Deborah Singer, is now involved in an online wedding giveaway.
Almost four years ago, Singer was diagnosed with breast cancer while working in Columbus. She did several on-air reports about her diagnosis and treatment options.
While undergoing radiation treatment, Singer decided to change her life by trying to find her soulmate. So she went online at www.match.com To her surprise, she got an e-mail from a man in Arkansas. She didn't know anyone from Arkansas. She replied to Craig Stuart, who lived in Fayetteville.
"He is awesome," she said. "He is the most original guy."
After her contract was up in Columbus, she took the plunge and moved to Fayettevile without a job, to be with Stuart.
Singer is now working with Jones Television, a nonprofit TV station that makes documentaries.
Stuart, who runs a home health agency for the elderly, proposed to Singer on her birthday, June 20, this year.
But because of mounting medical bills, they cannot have the wedding of her dream. She really wants to get married in Charleston, S.C.
Singer got some tourism books from the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau and spotted an advertising for the chance to win an $80,000 wedding in Charleston.
She had to make a five-minute video about their lives and why they want to get married in Charleston.
She and Stuart are one of four couples who made the finals.
"Now, I'm trying to get the word out," she said. "You can vote at http://charlestonweddinggiveaway.com daily until Oct. 17. The couple with the most votes will win."
No matter if they win or not, Singer and Stuart will be married on April 4.
