The Fountain City Ensemble will perform new music during Oct. 27 concert

The Fountain City Ensemble, a group of Columbus State University Schwob School of Music faculty members, will be performing new works during its Oct. 27 concert.

The group features percussionist Paul Vaillancourt, flutist Andree Martin, clarinetist Lisa Oberlander and saxophonist Amy Griffiths.

One of the quirky pieces is "Heartbreakers," by Jacob Ter Veldhuis, who is also known as Jacob TV. This work includes video clips from "The Jerry Springer Show," as well as sound bites from the show.

The second is called "Chance Chants" by Barbara Kolb and it features Gregorian chants.

The third piece is "Workers Union" by Louis Andriessen, and will feature clips from the 1927 movie "Metropolis."

Griffiths, who also teaches music history, will be discussing each piece. Michele McCrillis, a member of the Columbus Film Society and teaches art history in the CSU art department, will discuss the movie "Metropolis."

The concert is 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Studio Theatre, RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, 900 Broadway. It's free.
