Soldier attacked outside downtown bar

A Fort Benning soldier was attacked early Sunday as he left a downtown bar.

The 21-year-old soldier had just stepped out of Oxygen, at 1040 Broadway, with a friend and started talking with a woman when an unknown man approached and struck him with a beer bottle, Columbus police said. The soldier was cut in his upper right arm, and he and his friend immediately left for Martin Army Community Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as a black man, aged 20-30, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 220 pounds.
