Columbus native is new publisher in Bradenton

The Bradenton (Fla.) Herald has appointed Columbus native and former Ledger-Enquirer staffer Robert Turner as its new publisher.

Turner, 56, started his career as an L-E advertising sales rep in 1973. He joined the Bradenton paper in 1979 as retail advertising manager. He has since served as advertising director, general manager and vice president of operations before being elevated to the top job.

"It's hard to imagine a better fit to lead the Bradenton Herald than Bob Turner," said Gary Pruitt, chairman and chief executive officer of The McClatchy Company, which owns both the Herald and the Ledger-Enquirer. "Nobody knows more about that newspaper and the community than Bob. He's established an impressive record of achievement and community service in nearly three decades in Bradenton."
