Two arrested for child cruelty after doctor's visit

Two were arrested Monday on a cruelty to children charge after a doctor's visit.

The 4-year-old girl went with her younger sister to the doctor's appointment. The pediatrician saw marks on her and sent her to The Medical Center, leading to police getting involved.

The 4-year-old had injuries on her neck, back, shoulder and thigh, and she told officers she'd been whipped Thursday.

"She had deep bruising, welts and everything," Kennedy said. "They were disciplining the child. That's the only thing they said."

Laquasha Wilson, 20, and Nathaniel Washington-Ghant, 27, were arrested and charged with first-degree cruelty to children. Kennedy said Washington-Ghant whipped the child, though Wilson was also charged because the girl went four days without any treatment.
