Accused Doctors Hospital shooter indicted

Charles Johnston, the man police say shot and killed three people March 27 at Doctors Hospital, was indicted Tuesday.

A Muscogee County grand jury indicted Johnston, 63, on three counts of malice murder, three counts of felony murder, four counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, one count of aggravated assault and eight counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Johnston is accused in the shooting deaths of Peter David Wright, 44, Leslie A. Harris, 44, and James Baker, 76. Police say Johnston stepped inside the hospital armed with three guns, holding a grudge against a nurse he believed was responsible for the 2004 death of his mother at the hospital, and he mistakenly thought Wright was that nurse.
