DALTON, Ga. (AP) — Two more people have been arrested in the death of a Dalton High School football player who was fatally shot at a convenience store after a Memorial Day swim.
Coach Ronnie McClurg said Andrae Johnson and some friends had gone swimming on Fort Mountain and stopped at a Mini Super store on their return when Johnson was shot Monday evening.
Bruno Sanchez, 19, and Edgar Hernandez, 20, were arrested late Tuesday and charged with murder and violation of the Georgia Street Gangs Act,
Earlier in the day, Jose Chavarria, a member of the Tiny Winos gang, was charged with murder and violation of the Georgia Street Gangs Act, said John Parrish, supervisory agent in charge of the FBI’s Rossville office. Parrish declined to give more details late Tuesday.
According to witnesses of Monday’s shooting, one of Johnson’s friends went into the store and a group of other youths came by and one of them tried to hit Johnson with a bottle, but he blocked it away. "Someone then just shot him in the side and he died," McClurg told the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
"It’s just a senseless death and we’re all shocked," McClurg said. Johnson, 16, a defensive end, would have been a senior this coming season.
