Columbus police seeking help in rape case

Columbus police need the public's help in locating a man wanted in connection with Monday's home invasion and rape of a 20-year-old woman.

The victim told police a man knocked on her door about 11 a.m. The man outside said he had the wrong address, but as she tried to close the door he forced his way into her east Columbus residence, put a knife to her throat, sexually assaulted, beat and robbed her.

Police are searching for a stocky, dark complected black man, 18 to 25 years old, who stands between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 inches tall, with bushy eye brows, brown eyes, and short, black hair.

At the time of the rape the suspect was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt with bright yellow designs on it and dark pants. It occurred off of Steam Mill Road.

He fled in a unknown make and model black vehicle with tinted windows. Police said it was possibly a newer model vehicle.

Given the time of day and circumstance of this crime Columbus Police Sgt. Debra Bohannon said this is an unusual case.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Columbus police at 706-653-3400.
