Was anyone really pining for the new single from Chris Cornell's forthcoming solo record? Or for a reissue of Corey Hart's first two discs?
(Answers: No and oh-dear-god-no, respectively.)
Yet among the dreck of all the week's lousy new releases, there might be a hidden gem or two.
Consider Juliana Hatfield, who's apparently traded in spinnin' to the bottle for "Sittin' in a Tree" — which is the title of her new six-song EP. On it she pairs up with alternative country artist Frank Smith, who adds slide guitars to her paper-thin voice, with generally good results. It's nice enough, in fact, that we're willing to forgive that the cover art gives away a major plot point of the new "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie.
