The Muscogee County School Board could release the names of the top three candidates for superintendent of schools soon.
The board will have a called meeting today at 5 p.m. at the Columbus Bank and Trust Uptown Center, where members will go into closed session to discuss the candidates they have interviewed and to determine if they are ready to pick the top three candidates for the lead job in the 33,000-student district.
Former superintendent John Phillips retired earlier this year and is now serving as interim superintendent while the board looks for his replacement.
After the closed session, the board may come back into open session to discuss the mechanism by which the top three candidates will be chosen.
Board meetings are open to the public.
