Two 13-year-olds were sent to The Medical Center Saturday after their ATV collided with a pickup truck in Russell County.
The boy and girl had been riding around on the four-wheeler most of the morning when the collision happened around 10:45 a.m. CST on Sandfort Road at Gallops Road, said Communications Officer Smith with the Alabama State Trooper's Opelika post. The man driving the pickup was heading west on Sandfort and had the right-of-way when the ATV drove off Gallops, a dirt road, and in front of the pickup on its way into a private driveway.
"The four-wheeler did not stop at the stop at the stop sign," Smith said. "They approached the stop sign and tried to cross the road and ran right out in front of the pickup."
Both children were taken to The Medical Center, where the boy was in critical condition. The girl's condition wasn't known by troopers.
