Aflac names chief marketing officer

Aflac has named M. Jeffrey Charney as its senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Aflac U.S.

Charney comes to Aflac from television shopping network QVC Inc., where he served as senior vice president and CMO.

"Jeff Charney is a proven leader with cutting edge experience in brand development, creative consumer and product marketing and strategic business development," Paul S. Amos II, Aflac president and chief operating officer, said in a statement. "As we continue to promote the understanding of Aflac products and services to employers and consumers, I am confident that Jeff will be a significant asset in fortifying our position as the market leader of supplemental insurance in the United States."

Charney's predecessor, Jeff Herbert, left Aflac in October 2007 after less than a year on the job, citing personal reasons for his resignation.

Aflac also announced the promotion of Ronald S. Sanders to senior vice president and deputy director of sales, effective Saturday. Prior to his promotion, Sanders was vice president and Southwest Territory director for Aflac U.S.

Sanders will work with Ronald E. Kirkland, Aflac senior vice president and and director of sales, until the end of 2009. That's when Kirkland will retire, Aflac announced.
