With today's ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of a new Georgia Department of Corrections Day Reporting Center, Columbus will join the six Georgia communities with such a facility.
Day Reporting Centers (DRCs) are non-resident drug and mental health treatment and restitution centers where low-level drug and property crime offenders can be diverted upon sentencing.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place this afternoon at 1 p.m. at 1334 Second Avenue in Columbus.
Rome, Morrow, Griffin, Macon, Tifton and Athens all have DRCs and several more are slated to open around the state in the next couple of years.
