The Russell County School Board has scheduled a called meeting for 6 p.m. EDT Wednesday, its first meeting since the death of Superintendent Vivian Carter last Sunday.
Carter, 57, of Upatoi, died at The Medical Center after collapsing while speaking to a Russell County women's group Saturday night. The cause of death is still undetermined.
One of the items on the school board agenda is the selection of an interim superintendent to serve until a new superintendent can be appointed.
Carter, a Columbus native, had served as superintendent for nearly eight months after spending 18 years in the Barbour County School System. She succeeded Rebecca Lee, who resigned after serving nearly three years in the system.
