Volunteers from both the Temple Israel congregation and religious school helped distribute toys to families Monday afternoon during the Valley Rescue Mission's annual Christmas toy giveaway.
The students, parents, teachers and congregants(who also donated toys to the effort) joined others in helping parents choose a variety of toys from the mission's toy store. This year the program will provide about 1,300 children with Christmas presents.
Valley Rescue Mission is also giving away food baskets to 800 families through the program, which began December 22 and concludes Tuesday.
Parents are selected for participation by Valley Rescue Mission.
The new toys were donated by area businesses, churches and groups and also given through the annual Toys-for-Tots motorcycle ride, sponsored by the Iron Cross Motorcycle Club.
Volunteers from other organizations, including Synovus and the Valley Rescue Auxiliary, also helped with the toy distribution.
