A free screening will be offered at The Medical Center's Columbus Regional Conference Center today.
It's part of Stroke Screening and Awareness Day, an effort to educate area residents to the dangers of stroke, the third leading cause of deaths in the United States — just behind heart disease and cancer.
Participants can learn the signs and symptoms of a stroke during the 8 a.m.-2 p.m. event, and receive a free basic stroke screening that includes a health history, stroke risk assessment and blood pressure check.
For a $20 fee, participants can get a comprehensive stroke screening. The comprehensive stroke screeninginvolves blood work, so participants must be fasting. Call 706-571-1388.
