After having to wait through the entire first day of the Major League Baseball amateur draft, four Bi-City players were taken on Day 2 of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.
Columbus High’s Chase Weems and Russell County ’s Danny Danielson were taken during the first 30 minutes of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft's second day. Harris County's Caleb Brewer didn't have much of a wait, either. Zack Martin, a former Columbus High standout and Andrew College third baseman, was also picked Friday.
Weems was taken in the sixth round, 214th overall, by the New York Yankees. Danielson was picked in the seventh round, 236th overall, by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Brewer was selected in the 14th round, 438th overall, by the Atlanta Braves. Martin went in the 18th round, 568th overall, to the Los Angeles Angels.
Weems and Danielson have both signed with Alabama . They will have to decide whether they want to sign or go to Tuscaloosa, Ala., and play for the Crimson Tide.
