'American Idol': Top 36 announced tonight

Judges will narrow the "American Idol" pool to 36 semifinalists in tonight's two-hour episode, which airs 8 p.m. on Fox.

Contestants will learn their fates while individually approaching the four-member panel inside the "judges' mansion" -- a new setup for the reality TV show.

Reporter Sonya Sorich will blog tonight's episode "live," so be sure to check in often for updates.

Tuesday, judges cut from a group of 72 singers. Viewers said goodbye to formerly homeless teen Leneshe Young, as well as Michael Castro, brother of Season 7 finalist Jason Castro.
