The Association County Commissioners of Georgia issued a statement today praising Gov. Sonny Perdue for announcing he would sign House Bill 143, which mandates the state reimburse local governments for the Homeowners Property Tax Relief Grant credits on 2008 property tax bills.
In the statement, ACCG Executive Director Jerry Griffin said: “We are extremely pleased that Governor Perdue has honored the commitment that was made to local government, schools and the taxpayers when this funding was included in last year’s budget. Since last year’s property tax bills reflected this tax credit, our main concern has always been making sure that this reimbursement was provided so that local governments would not have to send out delinquent tax notices to homeowners for a credit that they had already received. We know that this was a difficult decision, but feel that homeowners across the state will be greatly relieved.”
