Columbus State hosts National Teacher of the Year

Columbus State University will host an open forum with the 2008 National Teacher of the Year today from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Blanchard Hall at the Cunningham Center.

Michael Geisen is a seventh grade science teacher at Crook County Middle School in Prineville, Ore. and the 2008 National Teacher of the Year.

He is noted for a teaching style “emphasizing inventive lessons that keep students singing, moving and paying attention,” according to a press release from the university.

The National Teacher of the Year Program is a project of the Council of Chief State School Officers, a nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education.
