Former astronaut Ken Mattingly will be honored by NASA Thursday at Auburn University.
Mattingly, who will speak about his experiences at 2 p.m. CDT in the Shelby Center for Engineering Technology, is one of six Auburn graduates who became astronauts. Three of those became directors of the Kennedy Space Center.
At 1 p.m. CDT Mattingly, who was portrayed Gary Sinise in the movie "Apollo 13" will be presented the Ambassador of Exploration Award for his contributions to the U.S. Space Program.
His award is a moon rock encased in lucite which will be on display.
