Divisive "American Idol" contestant Adam Lambert sang "Tracks of My Tears" and showed viewers his softer side Tuesday -- and gave the best performance of the night, according to judge Simon Cowell.
For Motown week, Lambert took the stage in a suit and slicked-back hair to perform an emotional, falsetto-driven performance of Smokey Robinson's "Tracks of My Tears." Robinson, who was in the audience, gave him a standing ovation.
The Top 10 offered a night of surprises, but not all were pleasant. Diva belter Lil Rounds, the contestant most likely to succeed with the Motown genre, gave a mediocre performance of "(Love Is Like A) Heat Wave."
Family man and oil rig worker Michael Sarver continued to struggle -- enough to make Cowell tell him he has no chance of winning the competition.
