Weather forecast rains out 'Big Read' Saturday community fence painting

The "Tom Sawyer" fence whitewashing has been washed out.

The event set for 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Columbus Public Library has been canceled because of concerns about the weather. Saturday's forecast has an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms with up to 2 inches of rainfall possible, according to the National Weather Service.

The community fence painting was to mark a part of the book in which author Mark Twain's clever protagonist Tom Sawyer pretends to so enjoy painting a fence that boys passing by give him their keepsakes if he'll let them do the work.
