Columbus crime: Man fatally shot outside barber shop

A man is dead and Columbus police are searching the person they believe fatally shot him Saturday night.

William Brandon Cobbs, 21, was in the driver's seat of a Nissan around 7 p.m. outside of a barber shop at 5401 Gunboat Drive when he was hit, said Lt. Steve Cox. Cobbs had just gotten a haircut and was in the car with an acquaintance, Brandon James Floyd, 21, who was in the backseat.

Cox said Floyd shot Cobbs in the upper back. Floyd then fled the scene.

Nothing was taken from Cobbs and investigators are still searching for a motive, Cox said. It isn't yet known why the pair were together at the time.

Cobbs was pronounced dead at The Medical Center at 7:38 p.m.

Warrants for Floyd have been issued on counts of murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Cox said.
