Christ the King Catholic Church, Hwy. 354 in Pine Mountain, across from the main entrance to Callaway Gardens, announces the following services for Holy Week:
The triduum begins at 6 p.m. on Holy Thursday with the Mass of the Last Supper. The Mass recalls the night Jesus was betrayed, and when Jesus instituted the Eucharistic Sacrifice of his body and blood and the commencement of the priesthood.
The Rev. Ronnie Madden will emulate Jesus’ washing of his apostle’s feet as he washes the feet of parishioners.
Following Mass, the Holy Eucharist will be transferred to a special altar of repose where parishioners can come for an adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until midnight.
At noon on Good Friday, the church will host the Stations of the Cross. This is one of the most popular Catholic devotions and is carried out by passing from Station to Station, with certain prayers and meditation on the various incidents leading to Christ’s crucifixion. The Way of the Cross, done in this manner, constitutes a miniature pilgrimage to the holy places in Jerusalem.
At 6 p.m. on Good Friday, Madden will preside over a three-part service.
The Easter Vigil will be celebrated beginning at 8 p.m. on Holy Saturday, with the Service of the Light during which a bonfire will be lit. During the Mass, converts will be brought into the church through Baptism and Confirmation.
Christ’s resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. with the Easter Sunday Mass. Call 706-663-0090.
