The Rev. Joe Andrews, the pastor of Metropolitan Baptist Church, died Monday of a heart attack. He was 65 and was president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, a group of local African-American clergy.
Funeral services are noon Friday at Metropolitan Baptist, 1633 Fifth Ave. Sconiers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is noon-7 p.m. Thursday at Sconiers, 836 Fifth Ave.
Andrews was a native of Lynchburg, S.C. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Walton Andrews. He is also survived by a son and three grandchildren.
He was licensed and ordained in 1981 as a preacher at Mount Tabor Baptist Church in Columbus. He'd led Metropolitan for 18 years.
