Columbus High School evacuated due to gas leak

Columbus High School has been evacuated due to a gas leak on 17th Avenue.

The school district's director of communications Valerie Fuller said a gas line near the school was damaged and city workers were working to fix it.

Senior students who drove to school were sent home; all other students were moved to St. Paul United Methodist Church on Wildwood Avenue and can be picked up there at 2:45 p.m.

Students who ride the bus will be picked up by bus and taken home as usual.

Columbus High athletes will not participate in the track meet at Kinnett Stadium today. Interim Principal Judy Whitt will send an update to parents later this evening via the district's Connect-ED messaging service.
