Muscogee County Schools: District to hold SPLOST forum at Blackmon Road Middle

The Muscogee County School District will hold a public forum on the proposed Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16 at Blackmon Road Middle School.

The system is holding a total of nine forums -- one for each school board district and one at-large forum. Thursday's forum will be the District 6 forum. Three forums have already been held.

The tentative SPLOST project list totals about $223 million and includes five new schools: a new Carver High, a new middle school, two new elementary schools and a fine arts academy. The list also includes additions to Northside High and Richards Middle, as well as technology and athletics upgrades across the district.

The tentative referendum date is Sept. 15, with early voting beginning Aug. 3. A special election would cost about $100,000.
