The Springer Opera House holds required season auditions on May 18-20

The Springer Opera House's season auditions for the 2009-10 season of plays and musicals will be 6-11 p.m. May 18-20 in Foley Hall, 1016 First Ave. The dance audition callback is 7-9 p.m. May 21 in Foley Hall.

The season auditions are for adults 16 and older for leading, supporting and chorus roles. It is a required audition for anyone wanting to be considered for a role. All actors must be 16 at the time of the audition.

Separate auditions will be held in the fall for any children's roles.

There will be five-minute audition times and everyone has to have an appointment.

Prepare a memorized monologue of one minute or two contrasting monologues of 45 seconds each. These monologues can be from published plays, monologue books or original material. Make sure you choose monologues that showcase your abilities.

Prepare a song if you want to be considered for a musical. All you need is 16-32 bars of a song that showcases you vocal quality and range, that's from a legitimate musical. Bring sheet music; a pianist is provided.

If you want to be considered for a role in "Footloose," you must audition May 18-20 and go to the dance callback on May 21. You do not have to have an audition for the dance callback. The audition begins at 6 p.m. and you need to wear dance attire and be prepared to stay until 9 p.m.

Here are the roles for each show:


"Footloose," a large cast, including some teenagers. All will sing and dance. Rehearsals are Aug. 24-Sept. 16, with performances Sept. 17-Oct. 3, with two possible weekday shows.

"The Star-Spangled Girl," has a cast of two young men and one young woman. Full day rehearsals Sept. 28-Oct. 14, with performances Oct. 15-31.

"Peter Pan," has a large cast, including some teenagers. All will sing and some will dance. Rehearsals are Nov. 9-Dec. 3, with performances Dec. 4-23 and includes four weekday shows.

"Inherit the Wind," has a large cast, including some teenagers. Rehearsals are Jan. 4-20, with performances Jan. 21-Feb. 6, including two possible weekday shows.

"Oklahoma!," has a large cast, including some teenagers. All will sing and some will dance. Rehearsals are Feb. 8-March 3, with performances March 4-20, including four weekday shows.

"The Complete History of America (Abridged)," has a cast of three men. Full day rehearsals are April 19-May 5, with performances May 6-22.


"Route 66" has a cast of four men who sing and dance. Full day rehearsals are Oct. 19-Nov. 4, with performances Nov. 5-14. It is also the Winter-Spring tour show, and brush-up rehearsals are Jan. 18-28, with the tour Jan. 19-early May.

"A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline," features one woman and one man with back-up singers and a band. Full day rehearsals re April 5-14, with performances April 15-May 1.


"Ramona Quimby," has a cast of two men and two women (children will be cast at another time). Rehearsals are Sept. 7-29, with performances Sept. 30-Oct. 10, including 12 weekday shows.
