Columbus Police Chief Ricky Boren confirmed this afternoon that he has chosen an assistant chief.
Charles V. Rowe, formerly the major in charge of the Office of Professional Standards, will be promoted in a ceremony on July 2 at 2 p.m., Boren said.
The position of assistant chief was last held by Boren himself in 2004. The chief said he was hesitant to fill the vacancy over the past three years because of department shortages.
Boren said Mayor Jim Wetherington supported his decision to promote Rowe and the staff at the police department is aware of Rowe's pending promotion.
