Columbus murder suspect pleads not guilty

Brandon James Floyd, accused in the slaying of 21-year-old William Brandon Cobbs on April 4, pleaded not guilty in Columbus Recorder's Court Saturday.

No bond was set and the case was bound over to Muscogee Superior Court, said police Sgt. Matt Blackstock.

Floyd, 23, is accused of shooting acquaintance Cobbs in the parking lot of 5401 Gunboat Drive. Police said Cobbs had just received a haircut and was sitting in the driver's seat of a Nissan, with Floyd in the back seat. A bullet struck Cobbs in the upper back, and he later died at The Medical Center.
