Boat owners will have the opportunity on July 4 to have their vessels checked by Walter F. George Rangers and members of the local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla.
Inspectors will check for personal flotation devices, registration and numbering, navigation lights, ventilation, fire extinguishers, distress signals, and battery cover and connections. All items are currently required by state and federal laws.
All vessels that pass the inspection will be awarded a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Safety Decal.
One checkpoint will be in Georgia at the George T. Bagby State Park from 11.30 a.m. - 2 p.m. EDT. The other is in Alabama at Highland Park from 11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. CDT.
